Effectiveness of goal-setting process for employee performance





Human resource management can be regarded as the effective and efficient utilization of human

capital within an organization in order to accomplish desired goals and objectives of the

organization. Therefore, it is required to have better integration with the employees and the

organization to deliver the required objectives with the expectation of gaming desired

performance targets, achievement of market share and the assurance of business sustainability

(umassglobal.edu, 2022) .

The availability of goals and objectives for the business is significant to determine the stipulated

strategies to attain the vision of the business. However, the mere availability of corporate

objectives would not be worthwhile unless there is a proper integration with the employees

since human capital is considered as the key asset of the company who drive and implement

the strategies to achieve desired objectives. When the corporate objectives are not integrated

with the employees, a goal incongruence situation would emerge creating a gap between

employee objectives and the company objectives. This instance would create a detrimental

impact to the business in terms of reaching to the desired market position (betterworks.com,

2022) .

Therefore, it can be identified as the establishment of proper goals and objectives to the business

and alignment them to the employees in terms of creating employee oriented goals and

objectives would be significant. Therefore, all corporate objectives should be linked to the

employees in terms of individual as well as collective goals where human resource department

should initiate this process through an introduction of a comprehensive employee performance

management process. For instance, overall company revenue targets needs to be converted to

individual targets such as individual sales targets per employee, number of services,

achievement of 5/5 customer reviews, handling customer complaints and so on where marks to

be assigned to the based on the actual achievements. In contrast, it is vital to set collective

targets such as over sales targets for the department, to delivery special projects with

stipulated time lines and so on with the intention of improving team work and the collective

efforts of the employees through synergy (mckinsey.com, 2022) .


This process will drive proper goal congruence allowing to create benefits to the employees as

well as for the organization.
